I knew this question was coming!

I'll start with user scores. Doing certain things on the site will award/deduct you points. Here are some things as they stand today:
+3 for each info entry you post that has a score of 0.
+10 for each info entry you posted that has a positive score.
-12 for each info entry you posted that has a negative score.
+5 if you report spam or an inappropriate entry to a moderator (me).
+1 anytime you vote on someone else's info entry.
-15 for each entry you posted that a moderator (me) confirms to be spam or inappropriate.
Spam: someone is using the Codex to promote their products, websites, stock tips, viag@ra deal$, or writing unintelligible garbage. It's fine if you link to your own websites and products, as long as you are not using the Codex solely for making money.
Inappropriate: Someone is talking about Spiderman in your D&D campaign, someone is calling someone an idiot, someone is swearing and you don't want swear words in your universe, someone posted a nude picture, etc. I'm not going to censor language or content. People are free to post their adult fan fiction, swear all they want, or anything. But if a universe owner complains about such things in his/her universe, I would likely comply and remove the offending entries.
No spam or inappropriate actions have happened yet, but I'm sure it will happen someday.
So, once your score is calculated, you get a level. Your user level is a weight applied to all your votes. A level 1 user's votes have these affects on the score of an entry:
+1 for check mark vote
-1 for thumbs-down vote
These values are multiplied by the voting user's level. So at level 3, you would be giving +3 or -3 to the score of an entry.
If an entry's score goes below -5, only the first few words will be displayed, with the option to show the rest of it. After a while (one month, I think), an entry with a score less than -5 will be removed and never seen again.
Here's some more info on it:
Voting.
So, now that I've explained all that, it's open to change. I may not want to use a user's level as a multiplier. The user level could just be for bragging rights. The voting system probably won't interest many people, and will mostly be ignored. But I think it's useful for open universes where anyone can post anything, and a way for the community to moderate itself is needed.
Let me know if you have any thoughts about it.
Cheers!
