The Age of Angels
Creation by the Gods
The Gods, in hopes of influencing the material plane strongly enough to bend the universe in their favor, were forced to create lesser beings in order to shape the world. The Angels were the first experiments in the creation of lesser beings. They shared purely the same goals as their creators. Thousands of angels, demons, and devils poured into the world each day, fighting over barren wastes and trying to extract energies their masters required.
The Angel Wars
The scale of the battles was massive by today’s standards, but still smaller than the cosmic war. Angels built volcanoes and dug valleys, slipped in and out of oceans, and directed the winds, all in hopes of driving their rivals back and gaining control over the resources in the prime material plane. Troops of angels, sometimes millions at a time, fought in massive battles over the corpse of a single fallen comrade, to recover the energy lost in the angel’s death.
Fertility
The remains of fallen angels seeded the earth and gave it fertility. This fertility allowed plants to grow and animals to live. However, the potential was not realized until the Age of the Lesser Races.
Decline of the Age of Angels
The first Dragon seen in the universe, probably Tiamat, routed a whole legion of elite angels in under a day. After that calamity, other Gods investigated the possibility of other races of beings (Please see The Dragon Wars). After this, Angels gradually subsided to use mainly in peaceful roles, or only as elite warriors. However, they remain important in the doings of Gods to this day, even if less numerous.
So began The Dragon Wars.
