Greater Northruntil

  • CITIES:
    Dralinor:
Dralinor is a small city in the West containing around 7,500 people. It has a 90-member military with 425 militia members ready to be called up. The city also has a levy system which can conscript 1,500 able-bodied citizens within a week.
    Economy: Strong, Stable
    Military: Above average for population
    Citizen Happiness: Content
Imports: Logs (Halizar), fish, agricultural products (Hazzlefurst/Dralinor), Iron products(Lakkeron)
    Exports: Lumber (Boragis/Hazzlefurst/Lakkeron)
Dralinor has a king named Anisar Montaron (TN Ftr 2 Aris 5), The seventh of the Montaron line. He looks out for Dralinor and its interests, but enjoys the benefits of being a wealthy king. He handles petitions, etc. on a case by case basis. His critics claim he has too little regard for the law, but his supporters point out the strength he has given common laborers to resist tyrannical guilds. Public opinion: Mixed (70% indifferent, 15% friendly, 15% unfriendly)
The chief of law enforcement, Captain Nalgon (LE War 11) receives massive bribes from the Guild in order to squash all crime other than the Guild themselves. Occasionally he makes a "guild arrest" (as the tieves' guild calls it) on trumped-up charges or false evidence.
However, Dralinor also has a sinister mafia who specialize in racketeering and extortion. The Guild of Thieves, as it is called in Dralinor, holds much influence over people in government and over guilds. Street thugs are recruited by invitation, the guild has multiple false fronts and deals through middlemen all the time. An attempt to contact the guild requires a DC 25 Gather Information check, and then the player attempting to contact them comes under great suspicion. False fronts for the Dralinor Guild of Thieves: Dralinor guild of tailors and leatherworkers, Emmet Laege, master constructor & co. (Emmet Laege (NE exp 1 rog 3) is a guild liason), West Dralinor General store (This is the place where the PCs get their gear), The Hollow Horse Inn and Pub. People and places influenced by the guild of thieves: Dralinor Prison (The Warden is being coerced into agreeing with their demands), The Dralinor Guild of blacksmiths (racket), Dralinor Law enforcement, Dralinor Armorers' union (they bribe the accountant to skim weapons), Cult of Olidammara, Cult of Vecna, Bluebottle Inn (racket), Dralinor Carpenters' Guild (racket), several independent craftsmen in and around Dralinor (rackets). The leader of the Guild goes by the pseudonym Blackwolf. Nobody knows his real name.
    Lakkeron:
Lakkeron is a medium city in the East

    Boragis:
Boragis is a small farming/fishing village between Lakkeron and Dralinor. The village contains about 800 people. It has a full-time city watch of 8 people and a forty-member town militia.
Economy: Solid, growing slowly (Poised to grow rapidly very soon)
    Military: average for population
    Citizen happiness: Happy
Imports: Lumber (Dralinor), Iron products (Lakkeron)
Exports: Fish, meat, and vegetebles (Dralinor), wool, leather (Lakkeron)
The reluctant mayor of Boragis, a man named Elmer Balrein (NG Com 6 Ari 1) is a man of integrity who was forced into office by the people. He is an excellent "people person" and is good at planning construction, etc, but is not particularly skilled with allocating money. Public opinion: Helpful
The captain of the watch (LN War 6) goes by the name of Constable Moode, but the people call him Mudd behind his back. He is a competent fighter and a capable leader. He looks to his men first and foremost. His critics, though few, dislike him for his lack of care for his people. Public opinion: Indifferent
Lakkeron and Dralinor periodically (every 70-120 years or 1-3 generations) fight wars, usually over trade disputes. Boragis is usually embroiled in these conflicts due to its central location. One such dispute threatens to lead to another war. Lakkeron, for the past 20 years or so, has had a huge population surplus. The city has been struggling to catch its industry up with its population, and had no need of the surplus food that could be gained by trading with Boragis. Now, Lakkeron has finally closed this gap and wishes to trade with Boragis for their food. Dralinor, with whom Boragis has long been trading, fears that this will cut into their food supply. Ambassadors now run between Lakkeron, Boragis, and Dralinor attempting to resolve the issue. Dralinor's king wishes to retain their food income from Boragis. Lakkeron's ruling oligarchy seek a compromise that will allow them to continue to grow, and Elmer Balrein, Boragis' mayor, sees a big, fat opportunity. Competition for Boragis' product is bound to drive up the price. Balrein seeks to make the food from Boragis as valuable as possible and begin pursuing a mercantilist policy, to make Boragis a wealthy and influential town once again. None of the involved parties, especially Boragis, want war (Though Dralinor is prepared to use force to protect its food supply), and the negatiations are far from crisis level. A summit will likely resolve the issue in the near future.
Boragis Dungeon: Boragis Dungeon was constructed about a hundred years ago as a military outpost during the Lakkeron-Dralinor wars. The place changed hands several times until it was finally abandoned. Earlier this year, a few members of the Order of the Golden Serpent took up residence in the dungeon, set up a system of traps and undead guardians, and began kidnapping human sacrifices from the village to devote an altar to Nerull, the god of death. A group of brave adventurers eliminated the clerics and rescued all of the hostages alive. The group declined an invitation to join the city watch an left for Dralinor the following day.

    Thalinar:
Thalinar is a large mining town East of Lakkeron, on the West side of Mount Halgon.

    Hazzlefurst:
Hazzlefurst is a small town of farmers and fishermen Northeast of Dralinor along the Laresain River.

Halizar is a large forestry town South of Dralinor, along the west end of Lanwood.

    Geographical features:
    Lanwood:
Lanwood is a place being clear-cut by loggers and infested by guerilla druids who attempt to undermine the forestry efforts.

    The Plains of Northruntil:
Populated mostly by nomads and tribes.

    Mount Halgon:
The location of a reasonably sized iron mine and an abandoned dwarf city
