She accidentally killed her landlord in self-defense by throwing him out the window, and then killing the merchant who he landed on. Her landlord had stolen her money, so she could not pay the fine for the crime, so she swam the canal in Letheras. The fine was fairly small, so she could have survived the swim, but a large fish got tangled on the rope and brought her underwater where she drowned. However, she had been cursed by someone she stole from in the past. This curse prevented her from dying. She emerged from the canal as an undead.
