Having defeated Moroch Nevath, Emperor Rhulad orders Hannan Mosag to use magic to kill the rest of the Letherii soldiers. Hannan does so, also killing some civilians and destroying buildings. Using this magic deforms Hannan's body. Rhulad's group then goes to the Eternal Domicile to claim the throne.

score: 0Iron Bars arrives at the dead Azath tower alone. Bugg wanted him to wait, but Iron Bars walks in to investigate and finds five Toblakai emerge from the ground. They are the gods known as the Sereghal. Iron Bars attacks all five of them. Corlo arrives and stays outside the tower grounds, secretly using magic to confuse the Toblakai. Ublala, being part Toblakai (Tarthenal), arrives to help in the battle.

score: 0Gerun Eberict and his men are at Tehol's house. They have killed two of the three Shavankrat brothers who were guarding Tehol, and are now looking to kill Tehol. They see Mayen run by, and decide to go after her first. The Buhn brothers and other Edur warriors show up and fight Gerun's men. Gerun chases Mayen, but she uses a knife to kill herself before he can catch her. Ublala, on his way to the Azath tower, finds Gerun at Mayen's corpse and kills him. Tehol and his guard flee Tehol's house, thinking it unsafe. While sneaking across the street, the Edur catch them and kill the guard, then beat Tehol nearly to death. They believed that Tehol killed Mayen. Hull Beddict, on his way to Tehol's house, sees someone being beaten by the Edur, but one of Buruk the Pale's Nerek blocks his path. The Nerek says that Hull has been judged. Because Hull sided with the Edur Emperor and his heart "...is poisoned, because forgiveness is not within [him]" (p.649, UK edition, trade paperback), he is killed by two knives stabbed into his back. A friend of Tehol's, named Chalas, tells the Edur to stop beating him. He covers Tehol with his own body, but is beaten and killed. Bugg arrives on the scene, and is enraged. He lets out a deafening roar, and all the Edur implode and explode. He picks up Tehol and carries him away.

score: 0Udinaas in Wyval form arrives at the dead Azath tower and dives into one of the open barrows. In the swampy realm, the Wyval separates from Udinaas, leaving Udinaas broken and bloody on the ground. Kettle is there, and the wraith Wither asks for some of her blood to heal Udinaas. The Wyval goes into the water to join the struggle going on. After some time, Silchas Ruin emerges from the water naked. Kettle gives him the two swords that Brys brought from Kuru Qan's secret stash. Wither kneels before Silchas, and explains that he used to be Killanthir, Third High Mage of the Sixth Cohort. Wither goes to help the Wyval battle the woman in the water. Silchas Ruin takes Kettle with him, and they emerge from the ground at the dead Azath tower. Now Shurq Elalle and Harlest Eberict, with his sharpened teeth, were also helping to fight the Seregahl. With Silchas' help, the Seregahl are easily beaten.

score: 0Turudal Brizad arrives at the Eternal Domicile to inform Brys that Kuru Qan has not just been lying on the floor useless. He beat the sea-god that was going to be used against Letheras. The tile that Kuru Qan lies on is channeling power from the Cedance. The Edur led by Rhulad arrive at the palace, where Kuru Qan informs the Warlock King that the sea-god has been beaten. The Warlock King and his mages use magic to attack Kuru Qan, but all but the Warlock King and Binadas are destroyed. Binadas is badly hurt, so Fear pulls him away from the fight. The Warlock King reaches his hands into two large leather sacks and casts magic to attack Kuru Qan again. While drawing power from the sacks, the Warlock King becomes hideously deformed. Fear insists that Trull throw a spear at Kuru Qan, and Trull reluctantly does so. The spear hits Kuru Qan and kills him.

score: 0The Edur enter the throne room, and the two leather sacks are opened for the King. Inside are the Prince and Queen, still alive but burnt, blistered, nearly hairless, and with growths all over their bodies. The Queen has gone mad. Even the Edur are horrified by what the Warlock King has done to them. The King and Nifadas each drink a glass of wine, and the king asks Brys not to fight Rhulad. Brys insists that it must be done. Brys knows that Rhulad cannot be killed, so instead severs his tendons and muscles in order to disable him but not kill him. Rhulad lies on the floor, helpless and screaming, asking his brothers to kill him. Fear and Trull are unable to do so. After the battle, Brys drinks some of the wine. But the King and Nifadas were already dead, the wine poisoned. Brys dies, and the Warlock King ascends to the throne, leaving Rhulad helpless on the floor. Fear had already fled the throne room, leaving Trull alone.

score: 0An apparition enters the throne room. It sees Rhulad lying on the ground and kills him out of mercy. It picks up Brys and carries him away. Rhulad resurrects and is healed. The apparition is the Guardian, and Brys met him underwater where he learned the names of all the old gods. The Guardian wants to retrieve the names from Brys, so takes him back to Mael. Bugg brought Tehol to an underwater tomb which had been emptied of water. Bugg reveals his identity to Tehol. Bugg is the elder god Mael, Lord of the Sea. The Guardian brings Brys' body to Bugg, and they take the names of the gods from Brys and give them to his brother, Tehol. Then the Guardian says that there will be two Guardians now: Brys will join him in the deep.

score: 0Fear has given up on following Rhulad and the Warlock King. He believes that the Crippled God has corrupted and taken control of the Edur, so he vows to find the spirit of Scabandari Bloodeye and get his help. Trull searches for Fear, and finds him as if he was guided towards him. Together, they seek to leave the city, and feel that they are guided towards Seren Pedac's house. Upon seeing her, Trull thinks he is in love with her. Fear and Seren will leave the city unseen, but Trull decides to stay with his brother Rhulad to try to make things better. In accordance with Edur betrothal tradition, Trull gives Seren his sword, and she accepts it. Others arrive at Seren's house seeking to leave the city unseen: Silchas Ruin (who introduces himself as Selekis), Kettle, Wither, and the unconscious body of Udinaas.
