Brys and Kuru Qan talk to Kettle at the dead Azath Tower. She says that he is looking at her when he looks at the tiles of the Holds at the Cedance. Kuru Qan explains to her that she used to be dead, but is now alive. Her heart beats very faintly, and blood begins to flow again. The heart was frozen, placed inside her, and is now thawing. She says that her friend will kill her if he has to, but probably won't since the heart probably won't wake up. Also, someone referring to himself as the Nameless One has inhabited her body. She presents Kuru Qan with a new tile for his readings, a tile of the new Hold of Death. The Azath tower has become a place of the Hold of Death. She knows about the Hold of Death because a handsome man spoke to her earlier in the day and explained it to her. He told her, "...the throne is already occupied, at least everywhere else. Here too, soon." (Midnight Tides, p. 477, UK edition, trade paperback.)

Looking out on the four hundred thousand corpses on the battlefiend, he points out that there are no ghosts.
