Paran departs on his own, saying goodbye to the Jaghut Ganath. He finds Onearm's army and sneaks in. Having been kicked out of the army, he decides to go by the name Kindly, who is a soldier with a good reputation. Onearm's army had attacked a temple to Poliel, but found that Poliel herself was there and they were defeated.

While chatting, Corabb reveals to Fiddler that Leoman was with a woman named Dunsparrow. Fiddler is shocked because Dunsparrow is Whiskeyjack's younger sister, who was baptized in Hood's name. Then there is a big fight nearby. The Hounds attack Dejim Nebrahl and kill all except one of his D'ivers creatures. A Hound carries away this last D'ivers. Dejim Nebrahl, setup to be a great and terrible threat in the Prologue, doesn't get to do anything. The T'lan Imass are much more powerful than him, it seems.

Bottle figures out that Telorast and Curdle are dragons. This detail, apparently, is not something that Apsalar could have noticed, and the author does not explain why. Why is it not apparent that these two characters are dragons?
