Before Mappo awakens, he speaks to an unnamed goddess. She informs him that the Nameless Ones have given Icarium a new companion. Mappo has failed, so he has been replaced. Mappo says that he no longer has faith in the Nameless Ones, that he fears what they may release. Icarium, he says, is not a weapon. The goddess says that the Nameless Ones created Icarium, so he is their weapon to use as they wish, and Shadowthrone is behind it. Mappo awakens to find Iskaral Pust and Mogora scrapping on the ground.

Paran and the Trygalle caravan are fleeing from the giant creature. Paran draws a wooden card, scratches some marks into it, and throws it at the beast, which then disappears. Huzzah! They then head towards five statues of the Hounds. Paran contacts Shadowthrone to tell him that he is going to release the Hounds and send them to Seven Cities. Shadowthrone throws a temper tantrum and called Paran an idiot. Shadowthrone does nothing. Paran uses explosives to break the statues, which releases the Hounds. The entire caravan, except Hedge, flee through a portal to an icy place.
