Voting

The easiest way to participate at the Codex and help with the quality of information is by voting on entries that you read. Once you are logged in, voting is a one-click task. I'm sure you'll be happy to vote against entries that are horrible, but don't forget to vote in favor of the good entries too. Here are explanations of the voting options you can use:

Check_mark Click on the green circle with a checkmark to vote that an entry is accurate, relevant, and well-written. You are indicating that you think the entry should remain published. Voting for an entry adds points to the score equal to the level of the voter. For example, if a user is level 2, that user's vote is worth 2 points towards an entry.
Thumb_down Click on the thumb down symbol to vote that the entry is inaccurate, irrelevant, and/or poorly-written. This subtracts points from the score of the entry equal to the level of the voter. When you vote this way, you are saying that you think the entry should be removed from the site or replaced with a better entry that tries to express the same ideas. Once enough people vote against an entry, it will be reduced to a much smaller size and only the first few words of the entry are shown. You can display the full entry by clicking on a link, at which time you can read the full entry and make a vote for or against it. After some time, entries with scores less than -5 are removed entirely and can no longer be viewed.
Exclamation Click on the red circle with an exclamation mark to report an entry to a moderator. Do this for reasons such as these:
  • the entry is offensive.
  • it contains vulgar language.
  • it contains insulting opinions or aims to insult other users.
  • the entry is spam.
  • someone is using the site to try to sell products in an entry.
  • it contains nonsense.
  • it is written in ALL CAPS.
  • it is irrelevant to the topic.
  • there is a broken link in the entry.
  • there is a broken image in the entry.
Moderators can award points to users who report entries that meet this criteria.
